"We were never taught to think - We were taught to comply."
Compliance isn't patriotism. Patriotism is discerning what is right and wrong and doing what is right in spite of what is legal

History does not remember its greatest atrocities as crimes — it remembers them as policy. Slavery was legal. The systematic destruction of entire peoples was signed into law, enforced by loyal men who were simply following orders. Every tyranny in recorded history did not rise in spite of the law — it rose because of it. Because the moment a government can legalize its own cruelty, good people become its most dangerous weapon. Not criminals. Everyday citizens. Complying. Never once asking whether what was legal was also right.
The law does not define what is moral. The law defines what those in power will allow. And there is a difference between those two things that has cost millions of people their lives.
Freedom was never theirs to give. It was always ours to keep
